Crispy as well as soft, what it is – unleavened flat Indian whole wheat bread (Roti or Plain Paratha). Paratha is famous in North India as popular as Biryani in Hyderabad. Paratha goes with dal makhani, pickle and sometimes vegetable dishes etc.
Today I am going to share with you plain paratha recipe. Dough with a pinch of salt, oil and carom seeds which makes the paratha tasty and healthy.
In India, paratha is not all about whole wheat flour stuffed paratha and plain paratha. Many varieties of flour and lots of recipes are there. Some of the dishes like aloo paratha, gobhi paratha, mooli paratha, paneer paratha, onion paratha, methi paratha etc.
Ingredients for Plain Paratha Recipe
- ½ kg whole wheat flour
- Two tablespoons of oil or ghee
- Water as required for kneading
- Oil for roasting
- Carom Seed
- Pinch of salt
How to Make Plain Paratha
Kneading process for paratha dough:
- In dough kneading plate take whole wheat flour. Add salt, ghee or oil and carom seeds.
- Mix it properly and make a well in the centre.
- Add water little by little and knead the dough into smooth and soft.
- Apply some ghee or oil after finishing the kneading process.
- Cover and keep the dough aside for 30 minutes.

- Triangular
- Circular
- Square
Method of Making Triangular Folded Paratha
- A medium sized ball from the dough. Dust with some flour and flatten the dough.
- With the help of a rolling pin, roll into a circular shape for about 4-5 inches in diameter.
- Apply some oil or ghee into the circular flatten shape dough and folded in halves.
- Then again apply some oil or ghee into the halves folded dough.
- Then fold sideways, and you will get a folded triangular shape.
- Now dust some flour and roll the dough into a triangular shape.
Method of Making Circular Shape Paratha
- A medium sized ball from the dough.
- Dust with some flour and flatten it.
- With the help of a rolling pin, roll into a circular shape for about 4-5 inches in diameter.
Method for Making Square Folded Paratha
- A small sized ball from the dough, dust with some flour.
- Flatten it and with the help of rolling pin roll into a circular shape.
- Apply some ghee or oil then fold from one side to the centre and press it.
- Now fold from the other side to the centre and press it.
- Apply some oil or ghee then fold from the centre, and you will get square folded paratha.
- Dust with some flour then roll the paratha into square shape.
Roasting of Paratha on Tawa
- Heat the griddle (tawa).
- The flame should be medium then place the paratha.
- Paratha is puffing from one side then flip the paratha from another side.
- Apply some ghee or oil into it.
- Flip again and apply some ghee or oil into the other side.
- Cook evenly from all sides.
- Cook all the paratha and stack them in a basket or serve hot with pickle or any other rich gravy preparation.
How to Make Plain Paratha Recipe

Triangular Folded Plain Parantha Method
1. A medium sized ball from the dough. Dust with some flour and flatten the dough.
2. With the help of a rolling pin, roll into a circular shape for about 4-5 inches in diameter.
3. Apply some oil or ghee into the circular flatten shape dough and folded in halves.
4. Then again apply some oil or ghee into the halves folded dough. Then fold sideways, and you will get a folded triangular shape.
5. Dust with some flour and begin to roll the folded triangle and you will get a triangular shape.
Circular Plain Parantha Method
1. A medium sized ball from the dough. Dust with some flour and flatten it.
2. With the help of a rolling pin, roll into a circular shape for about 6-7 inches in diameter and you will get a circular shape.
Square Folded Plain Parantha Method
1. A small sized ball from the dough, dust with some flour.
2. Flatten it and with the help of rolling pin roll into a circular shape. Apply some ghee or oil.
3. Now fold from one side to the centre and press it, fold from the other side to the centre and press it.
4. Apply some oil or ghee then fold from the centre.
5. Dust with some flour then roll the paratha into square shape and you will get a square folded paratha.
Roasting of Paratha on Tawa
